Fast Boat to the Islands

The fast pace of change on Cambodia’s islands extends to the boats that take you there.

As we told you with our recent review of the accommodation on Cambodia’s islands recently, there is a upsurge in new options along the south coast and this dramatic change of pace is reflected in access to the islands themselves. This used to be a bit of a challenge, as the only boats running out to Koh Rong, the largest of the islands near Sihanoukville, were fishing boats or converted dive boats, taking about 2 hours 30 minutes each way. However, this has all changed with the launch of the SEA Cat – a new fast boat running between Sihanoukville and Koh Rong four times daily. Now a second fast boat, the Koh Rong Dive Center Speed Cat, has joined the fray, with seating for up to 90 people. The Dive Center boat is offering forty minute trips to both Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, twice a day (8.30am and 2pm, returning from Koh Rong at 10am and 4pm) from Serendipity boat pier, with very reasonable promotional prices. There has never been a quicker, more affordable way to visit the islands off Cambodia’s coast, with plenty of accommodation options on offer too.
