Audley Guide Awards Sala Kdei Welcome

Here is a brief overview from Audley Indochina Product Manager Craig Johnstone:

“A few weeks have passed now since the 2017 Audley Guide Awards, making it the perfect time to look back and remember the wonderful weekend we all enjoyed together in Siem Reap. Friends and colleagues gathered from all over Southeast Asia, coming from as far afield as India and the Philippines to experience two days of festivities and information sharing. I hope you all agree that Hanuman were excellent hosts and helped organise a seamless event filled with many notable highlights.

It all started on the Friday evening when we were all welcomed at Sala Kdei, a traditional Khmer house looking over Angkor’s royal bathing pool. After having a drink or two and enjoying the Khmer buffet, it was time to recognise those responsible for delivering the Audley experience on the ground. Those of you who received an award that night are fundamental to our success and it was a pleasure to the share in the celebrations.”

Hanuman Guide Training 2015

Monday, November 2nd, 2015

Hanuman’s General Manager Patrick Chase and Product Manager Harold de Martimprey recently headed to Siem Reap to conduct our annual guide training for 2015.

They were joined for a morning classroom session by some of Cambodia’s leading tour guides, many of whom work exclusively with Hanuman. Training took place at our beautiful Sala Kdei, a traditional Khmer wooden home we use for exclusive meals, events, yoga sessions and cooking classes.

During the training we were delighted to welcome the fantastic team from Flight of the Gibbon Angkor who updated us on one of Southeast Asia’s top adventure activities and then invited us all to join them on tour in the afternoon! We took our superb guides and were also joined by team members from our hotels – Hanuman Alaya Boutique Residence and Hanuman Villa.

The team all geared up at Flight of the Gibbon Angkor

Guide Training in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap

Thursday, September 11th, 2014

As high season approaches, the Hanuman team hosted another refresher session for the leading tour guides in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

Hanuman Siem Reap Guide Training at Sala Kdei, Angkor

The Phnom Penh training took place on 3 September 2014 in the Hanuman head office and included a practical session out and about in the city in the afternoon. Guides joined our revised Living History of Phnom Penh tour and explored the new route to discover some new buildings and stories along the way. This original Hanuman itinerary includes some of the most iconic colonial-era buildings in the city, as well as some hidden gems in the back streets of Cambodia’s charming capital.

Trainers Patrick Chase and Nick Ray then travelled up to Siem Reap to work with the leading Angkor tour guides based in Siem Reap. The guide training was hosted in the stunning Sala Kdei overlooking Sra Srang which was looking better than ever with the gardens flourishing in the green season rains. The morning session was lively with lots of shared ideas on temple timings and best secret spots for sunrise and sunset, and was followed by a catered lunch.

In the afternoon we ventured into Angkor Thom for a practical session to teach the guides the philosophy behind the Angkor Thom Photographic Scavenger Hunt. Starting out at the Bayon Temple, we explored the smaller temples of Angkor Thom on foot, including the atmospheric Preah Palilay and the seldom visited Preah Pithu. This is an original, interactive way for families to explore the temples and keep their children interested. Highly recommended.
